BM Music Education

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Portland State University will provide you with a thorough music foundation, with specialized coursework in instrumental and vocal methods, conducting, rehearsal techniques, orchestration, and literature. You’ll train to become a music teacher in the K-12 setting and choose between our choral and instrumental music education tracks.

Career

Most of our alumni go on to grad school or a career as an educator in K-12 schools. Recent graduates who also completed PSU’s Graduate Teacher Ed Program (GTEP) have enjoyed 100% placement in music education jobs upon graduation.

Following your bachelor’s degree, PSU offers a one-year teaching certification program. Recent graduates have earned teaching positions in districts throughout the region including Portland Public, Beaverton, Vancouver, North Clackamas, Salem-Keizer, Lake Oswego, and many others. Some are teaching music in schools throughout the U.S. and even abroad.
