The faculty are committed to instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to the pursuit of knowledge through research and service activities in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Portland State University offers 24 bachelor’s degrees in the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. Each provides insights and perspectives enabling students to study, evaluate, and understand themselves and the society in which we live.
The College offers 20 master’s degrees in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. A doctoral degree in Biology, Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics Education, and Environmental Sciences and Resources, and joint doctoral degrees with System Science in Anthropology, Economics, Mathematics, Psychology, and Sociology are offered.
To realize the most from their university experience, students must give thoughtful consideration to all courses taken. The College provides accessible advising, both in the student’s major department and in the CLAS Advising Center. Faculty members and professional advisers are available to students who need help with course scheduling, in declaring a major, thinking about graduate education, and exploring career paths.
