As you pursue your Film program at Portland State University, you’re encouraged to become a part of the film community on campus and in Portland through events, clubs, networking opportunities, and off-campus internships.
And when you graduate with your film degree, you’ll be ready to jump into the profession or deepen your studies in graduate school. First-year students can start studying Film Analysis and Filmmaking right away.
With those prerequisites under your belt, you can select from an expansive set of classes as you receive a broad-based education in film studies and filmmaking.
Career
Graduates of our Northwest film school have worked in television and streaming shows such as Portlandia, American Vandal, and Shrill; on films (such as Leave No Trace) in Portland, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York City; for advertising agencies and in commercial production; and as film programmers for theaters and festivals.
Many of our students have also pursued careers that focus on film analysis, theory, and history. Our graduates have gone on to PhD, MA, and MFA programs at institutions such as Columbia University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Chicago, Brown University, Concordia University (Montreal), University of New Orleans, Florida State University, Chapman University, University of British Columbia, and University of New Mexico.
